Steven Keaton was the father of Alex P. Keaton who was the source of my poltical/ideological inspiration growing up... but I think in the show S. Keaton was a liberal and ex-hippie and part of the joke was that his son fell far from the tree. So it's a tuffy.
Didn't Alan Thicke compose songs? I'm pretty sure Jason Seaver, the character, did not write the songs and it is therefore irrelevant if you like the songs in your answer to the Best TV Dad question.

better dad, Steven Keaton. Better sitcom songwriter, Jason Seaver. Next question, better neighbor. Family Ties, Nick or Growing Pains, Boner
Steven Keaton? Family Ties? How old are you people? When was this question made? 1987?

Clearly it is Jason Seaver.......you can't write the theme to "Facts of Life" and not be considered great!!! ;-)
